Kriss, Phenom and Ashley review Despicable Me 3, the third (techncially 4th if you include the Minions movie) film in the Despicable Me series. Despicable Me is known for the way it balances appealing to not only kids but adults with certain references and the third film is no different. Steve Carell pulls double duty this film returning to not only voice Gru one more time but also Gru's long lost twin brother, Dru. He is joined by Kristen Wiig (Lucy) , Miranda Cosgrove (Margo), Dana Gaier (Edith) and Nev Scharrel (Agnes). Pierre Coffin is the voice of the mischievous (and lovable) Minions. The standout in this film might be Trey Parker though who voices Balthazar Bratt, the villain in the film. Bratt is a former 80's child star turned villain who is upset that he was thrown to the side once he hit puberty. This leads to a plethora of 80's references and music throughout the film that should give adults plenty to laugh at alongside their kids. At one point Bratt conducts a heist while dancing and moonwalking to Michael Jackson's 'Bad'. It's fun for everyone. In addition to reviewing the movie, Kriss & Phenom also have a discussion about this article from Wired that explains why Rotten Tomatoes (and Metacritic) are basically influencing what movies people see with fake information. Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver is a fast past, fun heist movie that is both unique and fresh, while hitting the typical heist movie beats. You can always tell when a movie is a passion project of a great director because the level of detail and effort put in is hard to ignore. Baby Driver is Wright’s passion project come to life after 22 years as a concept in his head. The most standout part of this film is the soundtrack and how it is integrated into this movie. Unlike most films where the music gets added in after the film is shot, because its importance, the music in Baby Driver was obtained first then had scenes shot around it. It makes for a thrilling film. Our only real complaint about this film is that it seems like an odd time to release this film and that maybe later in the year would get it more attention. Listen to our full review to get all our thoughts on this film and leave us a comment to tell us what you thought. Also the soundtrack was released last Friday and can be purchased on iTunes. Also released was the “Chase Me” music video by Danger Mouse featuring RTJ & Big Boi, so check that out as well. Sponsors: TweakedAudio.com using the code ‘reviews’ to get 33% off & free shipping. In case you didn’t know, Tom King is currently writing the hell out of Batman over at DC. After turning in a stellar 12 issues on Vision of all characters over at Marvel, King got scooped up by DC to write Batman. He was taking over as writer for Scott Snyder who moved on to All-Star Batman. Snyder’s 52 issue run on Batman was an amazing run that set the bar high for King coming in (You can catch our Comic Book Book Clubs talking about Snyder’s run here, here, here and here). But King has knocked it out of the park. Kriss and Dpalm discuss Tom King's run on Batman then talk about the crossover with The Flash, The Button and what it means for the future of DC in the Rebirth era. We talk about recruiting in 2017, making more people smarter about football, analyzing line play, and why quarterbacks aren't as smart as Y'ALL keep saying they are. Plus, we talk about the 17 Warriors playing ghosts, Ole Miss being real loose with their cheating, who asked for this Joe Paterno bio pic, Bob Stoops' shotgun retirement, and Colin Kaepernick's continued black balling by the NFL. Season 3 of SyFy's 12 Monkeys is a mixed bag. This season has had some really great acting performances of the cast. Emily Hampshire as Jennifer Goines continues to be a standout on the series. James Callis also adds in a great performance as Athan the last 3 episodes. But the show has struggled with consistency and breaking its own rules the entire season. The writing, which used to be the strong suit of this show, has become it's greatest weakness. The writers seem to change or ignore established mythos and rules when it fits their needs. Also the reveal of the "True Witness" just doesn't stick the landing due to inadequate build up throughout this season. Listen to HiroJa and The Doctor wrap up their Season 3 review of 12 Monkeys with the final three episodes:

It Comes At Night is a complicated film to review. The latest horror film produced by A24 is a technically sound film. Director Trey Edward Shults beautifully captures intense moments and suspense by using different lenses and playing with aspect ratios. Yet the actually story in the film leaves a lot to be desired. It Comes At Night suffers from a few things. First, it is being marketed as a monster/horror film and it isn't. The title of the film suggests some creature or manifestation showing up. This type of false marketing is frustrating for audiences as they will spend most of the film with an expectation that is never fulfilled. But worse than false advertising, this film falls into the same problem that many "Art House" films do: It's completely unfulfilling as a form of entertainment. Director Trey Shults admits to purposely leaving the audience without answers and while that can sometimes be acceptable for some films, it doesn't work here. The film drops us into a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by some mysterious illness. We aren't given many details in terms of time, place or even the specifics of the virus. All of that is fine for this film. But when it comes to the interactions of the two families in this film and the rules the film establishes up front, everything breaks down. Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott and Kelvin Harrison Jr. all put in pretty solid performances. Harrison is particularly a standout as the 17 year old Travis, who seems to be the focus of much of this film. But their acting plus the suspense and tense brought on by the camera work and music, just aren't enough to overcome a pretty awful script. This leaves the film as being an enjoy film to admire for its technical aspects but pretty frustrating to watch as a form of entertainment. Hiroja and the Doctor continue their review of Season 3 of 12 Monkeys with the next 6 episodes:
The Good The heist portion of Nature was the highlight of these 6 episodes. Once again Jennifer Goines uplifts the show and the season in general. Causality with Christopher Lloyd is the creepiest episode due to a very Children of The Corn vibe throughout. Todd Stashwick (Deacon) is also a standout acting-wise. The acting in general has been very good this season with everyone bringing their A game to the show.
The Bad The biggest problem with the show is the lazy writing and changing the rules as they go along. That becomes very apparent in this series of episodes. This shift in writing is dragging the entire season down and is losing all of the good will the show built up with the audience previously. We don't like that Cassie and Cole are keeping the secret of The Witness from the group since it causes more unnecessary problems. Ramsey Death seems really convenient and the lack of effort on Cole's part to not try to save his " Brother " again speaks to the change in quality writing on the show.
