Helluva a 5 days for your boy.

Trying to make sense of it all, we've called in Columbia legend* Barso to walk me through the Bulldogs and Falcons once again coming up short. Unfortunately, while blocking alongside me made him look good, no one could polish the turd that was this past 12 months as an Atlanta sports fan. From 28-3 to Atlanta losing their baseball team, to the events of Monday night and finally 4th and goal drops, good friends are there for you but great friends will make fun of your misfortune. Apparently Barso is a great friend. Ugh.

That time of week again: Agents of Shield review time! So, Kasius didn’t die but he’s the only one that we thought died that survived. It works out though because we get a lot more background information on why Kasius was exiled. And we really get a lot more information on Sinara as well who seems to be the real dangerous one. It’s funny that a character that has barely spoken all season is the one that scares us (even moreso when she finally does speak).

We also love the fact that while all this is going really bad, the agents don’t lose their sense of humor. Fitz being a little upset that he’s not given enough credit for all he went through to get to the future. Flint and Mack bond and we’re back to black fatherhood moments. We end the review with Dpalm’s theories on the end of Infinity War, what Avengers 4 is about and how it all ties into season 5 of Agents of Shield.

We're back with a new episode of the Insanity Check. This week Kriss is joined by Dpalm so you know this show is going to go off the rails. But we actually keep it pretty civil. Kriss doesn't even troll Dpalm about Georgia's collapse in the National Championship Game. He's a good friend.

Let's cut right to the chase: The Commuter is a terrible film.

Maybe at one point there was an interesting concept here but the execution was just predictable trash. It's not even even one of those "enjoyable" bad movies either. You just spend your time calling out exactly what's going to happen next and glancing at your watch hoping for it to end.

But the real tragedy of this film is that they're going to use Liam Neeson's name and the perception that he's a "draw at the box-office" to keep making films like this. It's one of the greatest lies that Hollywood tells right now. They do a film on a shoestring budget, bring in a known name (most likely an aging white male actor), put out a terrible film but the film makes good profits because the budget was so low. And so continues the cycle of pretending that the actor is good for drawing people to the films.

Listen to our full review of The Commuter as we go into spoilers for why this film is so bad. Towards the end we then look at the list of highest paid male actors compared to highest paid female actors and it's a travesty.

Kingpins & Pen Kings, hosted by Latoya and PhenomBlak, is a podcast focused on separating the rappers from the gangster they portray.  In this episode, we  discuss one of hip hop's most idolized Kingpins, Scarface and we talk about the Pen King who took on that name and gave it new meaning, Brad Jordan aka Scarface.

Ah, sports heartbreak. We meet again.

One day, a man will rank all of the Atlanta sports losses on some sort of quantifiable scale. His results will be unbiased and meticulously researched, and I reserve the right to beat him to death with a tire iron. For the second time in 11 months, here we are again; me full of misery, processing in front of a microphone and reading listener emails to commiserate - but more usually - mock my pain.

NEW YEAR NEW ME!

Just kidding. 2018 is here, and it's still me. Which means, you get to listen to me cheer on the future National Champion Georgia Bulldogs for an hour alongside one of my oldest friends who took me to my very first UGA game many moons ago! We talk about Wright's journey to being a coach and athletic administrator, as well as UGA's win over Oklahoma, Alabama's suffocation of Clemson, and (sigh) UGA's last 4 meetings with Saban. Also, we look at the disappointing bowl season, the Falcon's win over the Rams, and Oakland going all in on some decent PR.

Back from a short break, Agents of Shield season 5 continues to impress.  Episode 6, Fun & Games, Clark Gregg takes over as director to give us an episode that might as well be called "Everyone Dies".  We weren't prepared for all the people that get taken out this episode. We should have been though because Agents of Shield has never shied away from a body count. Fitz is finally reunited with Simmons and makes us realize that none of us love anyone as much as Fitz loves Simmons. We also get some great fight scenes with May vs Ben and Daisy vs Sinara. We love the way that they keep evolving how they have Daisy use her powers. And we get more information on Flint as he's rescued by YoYo after going through terrigenesis.

This episode also pulls off something that can be tough for shows and that's seemingly killing off the villain and replacing them with someone else. It works for this episode because Kaisus's brother seems to be even more trouble than he is. Plus we still have Sinara around and she's scarier than both.

Also, we're pleased to announce that we will be hosting two Black Panther Screenings opening weekend. One in LA and one in DC. We're hoping tickets will go on sale Friday, January 12th at Noon est. Below is the theater information for each screener:

  • LA: Friday Feb. 16th 8pm Cinemark at Pike in Long Beach

  • DC: Saturday Feb. 17th 12 pm Regal Cinema Gallery Place Stadium 14 Washington DC

Leave a 5 Star Review for us on the Super Tuesday feed in iTunes and we'll read it on the next show!

We’re starting 2018 off right by going through the essential comic books for Scott Summers and Alex Summers. That’s right it's Cyclops and Havok time. Any chance we can get to talk X-Men, we’re going to leap at it. This was a fun episode to do because Cyclops and Havok have such long and rich histories not only with the X-Men but X-Factor as well.

Scott Summers first appeared in X-Men #1 and Alex debuted in issue #54. Scott starts off as the boy scout and natural leader while Alex is more reluctant to lead and a bit more rebellious. Throughout their history in the comic books though, they gradually switch places as Alex becomes more of a team player & leader and Scott becomes a revolutionary.

Here are some of the essential comic issues we covered:

Scott Summers:

  • Uncanny X-Men 1 - First appearance of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and the X-Men
  • Classic X-Men 42 - Mister Sinister in the orphanage
  • X-Men Giant Size #1
  • Uncanny 125 - 128
  • Dark Phoenix Saga
  • X-Factor Vol 1
  • Uncanny X-Men 243
  • X-Men Vol 2
    • #1 - 3
    • #30 - Scott Summers marries Jean Grey
  • Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix
  • Search for Cyclops 1 - 4
  • New X-Men - Grant Morrison - #114 - 154
  • Astonishing X-Men - Joss Whedon
  • Messiah Complex
  • Schism
  • Avengers vs X-Men
  • Uncanny X-Men - Bendis
  • Death of X

Alex Summers:

  • Uncanny X-Men 54 - First appearance of Alex Summers
  • Uncanny X-Men 58 - First appearance of Alex Summers as Havok
  • X-Factor Minus 1
  • Incredible Hulk #150
  • Uncanny X-Men Volume 1
    • Issue 158
    • Issues 233- 255
  • Wolverine/Havok Meltdown
  • X-Tinction Agenda
  • X-Factor #87
  • X-Factor 101 - 105
  • Mutant X
  • Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire - Uncanny X-Men 475 - 486
  • X-Men: Emperor Vulcan
  • X-Men Kingbreaker
  • Uncanny Avengers
