The first season of Fox’s The Gifted has come to a close and what a season. If you told me that a X-Men TV show without the actual X-Men with the focus on a family with two mutant children would be the best live action X-Men we’ve ever gotten, I would have called you crazy. But here we are. The entire season was great but the last 3 episodes put the icing on the cake. We find out the Cuckcoos represent the Hellfire Club and plan to fight back by recruiting some of the Mutant Underground. It sets up next season to have a showdown between the two ideologies that are core to the X-Men/Mutant story without having Professor X or Magneto on screen.

Topics:

  • Andy’s slow turn to the dark side. Darth Andy is here
  • Jace Turner officially goes full villain (and we can’t blame him)
  • Polaris’ bipolar disorder and the way the show hands it
  • The sneaky underhanded nature of the Cuckoos
  • The Reed parents are finally earning their keep
  • One ship is on the rocks but the other heats up
  • Purifiers, a Humanity First hate convention and all the reasons the humans are terrible

Make sure you subscribe to Super Tuesday Recap to get all of our reviews for this first season and stay tuned, we will be back to review season 2 and we can’t wait.

We're quickly approaching the end of the first arc of this season of Agents of Shield so you know that means heart break is on the way. Agents of Shield does a great job of ensemble storytelling. We get two separate focuses, one on the team on the surface and the second with Mack & YoYo leading the resistance. On the surface we see Daisy struggling with the belief that she could be the one that causes the destruction of the earth. Should she get her powers back? Can she just be Daisy Johnson and not Quake? Oh and Fitz finally freaks out over the realization that they're in a time loop and therefore things can't change.

With Mack and YoYo, we get zombie Tess and Kasius revealing that he knows who YoYo is. So now the real question: Does he have a past version of Mack or YoYo locked up in that room telling him what's going to happen?

This show is great and we all need to be prepared for the heart break that is eventually coming. We all know it is.

We finally get more information on why Cayden James has beef with Oliver and it makes us ask, who is setting Oliver up? As much as folks say Arrow is rehashing old stories, they still have managed to add in small changes. Oliver is letting the new team try to spread their wings even though he knows they're wrong. Showing a bit of growth. Also Felicity gives William a pretty good speech on why Oliver has to put the suit on.

We also talk about why Arrow has been better than The Flash the last two seasons. I know folks have been calling for Arrow to end but we explain why The Flash has the same issues as Arrow but worse.

William gets caught in the cross hairs as Oliver attempts to stop Cayden James with just the original Team Arrow.

We’re back for more Star Trek Discovery Season 1 discussion. This time we’re covering episodes 10 - 12 (Despite Yourself, The Wolf Inside, Vaulting Ambition). First thing first Kriss is out of control. He’s entirely too happy to troll The Doctor over the Ash/Voq reveal. There’s something seriously wrong with him. But there’s a lot to talk about for these three episodes. Star Trek Discovery has been such a joy to watch and these last three episodes will definitely make you want to go back and rewatch the previous episodes. Here are some of the things we discussed:
  • Captain Tilly and Captain Burnham
  • Did Burnham taste Captain Georgiou on Ash’s lips?
  • Sonequa Martin-Green thighs
  • No not Hugh...
  • What does Saru (Kelpien) taste like? Is it good with hot sauce or fried?
  • Lorca’s creepiness has peaked
  • Star Trek Discovery manages to balance old school Star Trek & action
  • Will the show stay in the mirror universe moving forward?
Make sure you subscribe to Super Tuesday Recap on iTunes/Stitcher or follow our playlist at Youtube.com/MTRNetwork. We will be back to cover the finale in 3 episodes (and hopefully do it on FB Live). Leave us a comment (you can use your Facebook account) and tell us what you loved about these last three episodes and what you’re looking forward to for the last 3.

Shanna and The Doctor discuss the Supergirl Roadtrip to space as they seek more information on Reign from an old dark Priestess.  Through some convoluted challenges, only women can go, so Kara must recruit LiveWire and Psi.  Along with Imra, they infiltrate Fort Rozz but are quickly intercepted by Reign.  We also debate the appropriateness of sharing your romance grief with a 12 year old.

Later, P-Funk and DB who host the Premium Star Wars Rebels cast join us to discuss the Blackity Black show Black Lightning, in an episode that saw a lot of bodies fall.  This show is so gritty and realistic with its stories, and has already started sparking debate, from the meta narrative on the futility of respectability to the debate around the use of the word "fast" to discuss young Black girls.  We also discuss the fact that this ain't your momma's CW DC television show, as the pacing is rapid and the stakes are high.  And yeah, about White thieves-thank you Black Lightning for giving us one this week.

Either you're in or you're out on Ralph Dibny. That's pretty much the takeaway from The Elongated Knight Rises. If you don't like Ralph, then this campy filler episode is a drag. If you do like him, then this was a nice distraction from the DeVoe storyline which has been pretty dark. We debate whether folks are being too harsh on Ralph because it's not what they expected or if it's just that bad.

One thing we do agree on though is that the scenes with Barry in jail just don't make any sense. Last week Barry was so fast he had a full conversation with Iris in the courtroom that no one saw. This week he's worried about being spotted by cameras in the prison? None of it makes sense and we feel that they could easily solve these issues with simple throwaway lines.

Finally we talk about how the "mystery girl" (It's Dawn Allen folks) fits into the storyline and what it could mean for this season or the next.

Oh and if you're gonna take on Bill Goldberg in prison, use the shank.

The Doctor, Ashanti, Ejiro, and Tai are back to discuss the glorious mess that was Margaret, the soft peddled Nazi leanings of the royal family, Elizabeth's evolving role in light of her diminishing kingdom, and more.

Agents of Shield Season 5 Episode 8: The Last Day.

This show. Every time we think we have it figured out, they do something new to throw us for a loop. Coulson and the team talk to Robin to figure out just what happened that got them into this situation. This episode is filled with a bunch of clues and information in both the present and the flashbacks. The bond between Robin and May is explained and we now know that May holds the key. Well, May and Flint. There's a lot to go into here.

Oh and you get a treat as Kriss & Dpalm discuss the plan to make Dpalm the first Black American to win a gold medal in curling. Yes, we go off the rails.

Coulson and the team discover that the most unexpected person from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s past may hold the key to stopping Earth's destruction.

Hey, at least this episode wasn’t as bad as this week’s episode of The Flash right? For all the talk about Arrow doing the same thing over again, we do need to give some credit for the changes they make. Sure, in Divided, Oliver is back to being a lone wolf. And we still don’t know what his plan was (spoiler: he had no plan). But the end of the episode didn’t end how it has in the past. The new team splitting off onto their own is a new development. So credit where credit is due.

That said…we’d be okay with this split if the new team wasn’t 100% wrong. Dinah and Rene have no ground to stand on. Rene’s betrayal is what led to this whole thing yet she’s more upset with Oliver? It’s just really weird and doesn’t make sense.

Hey, Arrow still has some of the best choreographed fight scenes in the Arrowverse though.

Oliver discovers one of Cayden's secrets; he decides to team up with an unlikely ally to defeat him; Dinah spends time with Vince.

The Flash comes back from break with what might be their worst episode of any season. Trial of The Flash should have been a great emotional episode that shows the duality of Barry’s existence. Instead, the episode is pretty worthless.

This episode is just very frustrating. In this review, Kriss and Dpalm talk about the narrative decisions that are hurting the Flash and question if 22 episodes are just too many for this show. Also, Kriss makes a solid argument for why having Barry reveal his identity is the shot in the arm this show needs.
